September 12-27, 2017
A heady mix of haunting sights, awe-inspiring art and vibrant street life, Italy's Eternal City is one of the world's most beautiful and inspiring capitals.
AGROPOLI & tropea
Located just south of Peastum, Agropoli is a pleasant, tranquil town that makes a good base for exploring the Amalfi coastline and park. The historic city centre, is a fascinating tangle of narrow cobbled streets with ancient churches, venerable residents and a castle with superb views.
The town has been inhabited since Neolithic times, with subsequent inhabitants including the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines and the Saracens. In 915 Agropoli fell under the jurisdiction of the bishops and was subsequently ruled by feudal lords. It was a target of raids from North Africa in the 16th and 17th centuries, when the population dwindled to just a few hundred. Today its residents number closer to 20,000, making it the largest (and most vibrant) town along the Cilento coast.
This tour is designed for those who like independent traveling, once at destination you decide your own agenda. Day excursions to Salerno, Sorrento, Capri can be arranged or spend the day at the beach or shopping.
